President's Report: On the record pension meeting scheduled for November 6. Word is out about pension fight, getting phone calls from committees and politicians asking to slow down and wait until after elections. Attitude is to move forward, we understand it creates some issues for future negotiations, but the behavior of the city is unacceptable and we are not willing to do any more favors. We are ready to make our stand and have our fair chance. The PD settlement does not help us, but we have to deal with what we are presented with currently.

Uniform order is coming up, new three-piece jacket may be available, but will cost three pieces from allotment. Other items may come in, as long as the 6-pieces are still maintained.

Discussion with Chief and Bret regarding EAP today and Brett's certification. Doug is on board with anything that is needed. Some changes may be coming regarding legal obligations and accountability.

Tables and chairs still an issue with people taking them without signing them out and bringing back fewer and fewer. Union will probably have to buy more and establish new system for securing them. Working on options to keep what we can and maintain accountability. Question about retirees vs current members rights to chairs- typically whomever signs up first has dibs. If there is an issue, contact President.

Issue regarding swap time and grievance has come up, e-board and grievance committee will determine to pursue or drop grievances based on ALL facts from both sides. Some issues are more involved than they may seem and can have dire consequences. Members should respect the decisions and not force others to continue complaint if they do not wish to do so.

Donated food to Martinez family from Lasse's. IAFF asked for no more visits for the time being as FF Martinez recovers from his surgeries. Offer from Brother Benavides-Espinal to have home-cooked Spanish meal. Thank you to those whom attended FF Bell's funeral. T-shirts are being sold for $20, Marty will provide info.

Chief is looking to bring back original physical agility test.

President's meeting addressed pensions, contracts, social media, HSA, benefits and disciplining outside behavior. Bridgeport settled contract and lost healthcare in retirement- 29% cost share + 1% /year until 50%.

Ebola training Okayed by union to get it in as soon as possible. Felt it was necessary and important given current circumstances. Letter received for non-precedent setting.

No real word on new recruits...

Dan and Meghan had new baby boy last week. Nathan- congratulations

Happy Birthday to Michael Dunn today.

Gil is retired as of 10/18. Breakfast for retirees this past weekend set up by Hessberger, went very well. If any other stations want to hold one, see Heenan for some money. Other breakfasts have been raffled off and typically are held at HQ, but if any other station wants to host it feel free to ask.

Grievance by Sean O'Brien regarding charging of vacation day was denied, next step to bring it to the floor and make a motion to overrule grievance committee. Motion not made, general opinion that the cost was too high for the benefit.

Brett informed EAP is not simply for substance abuse. Counseling is available for high stress calls and other issues as well regarding mental health and general well-being. Brett has many contacts for every issue and can at the very least point someone in the right direction for help if they do not wish to seek help within the department, will be taking test within the next year for certification. Full backing of Union and Chief for support of the program and looking to make sure everyone knows help is available before it is too late. If anyone knows someone who needs help, they can make anonymous contact to try and get them help and not enable them.

Hessberger took over t-shirt world for now.
